Philippines Reports 30 Fatalities in Floods, Landslides
According to the NDRRMC, seven individuals remain unaccounted for, presumed either swept away by flash floods or buried by landslides. Additionally, the disaster has resulted in 10 reported injuries.
The NDRRMC has so far validated 13 of the confirmed fatalities.
The storm's destructive path has left over 1.46 million families—around 5.30 million individuals—affected across the country. In response to the growing crisis, 88 cities and municipalities have already declared a state of calamity, enabling quicker access to resources and more efficient emergency response efforts, the Office of Civil Defense reported.
Though Typhoons Wipha, Francisco, and Co-May have since exited the region, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned on Saturday that the southwest monsoon is expected to continue dumping heavy rainfall over parts of Luzon in the coming days.
The Philippines is no stranger to such natural disasters, with an average of 20 typhoons hitting the country annually.
