Gas explosion in Russia kills six people
A deadly gas explosion ripped through a residential building in Saratov, Russia on Friday, killing six people—including a child—and injuring others, according to reports. Emergency teams are still combing through the debris in search of survivors, with authorities warning that the death toll could climb.
The blast struck a ten-story apartment complex in the city, which lies along the Volga River, approximately 730 kilometers southeast of Moscow. Footage from the scene shows a large portion of the building’s upper corner completely destroyed, with debris scattered across nearby streets.
Videos captured the aftermath, revealing shattered walls and widespread destruction. Some of the debris was reportedly hurled with enough force to damage neighboring structures. People on the ground also sustained injuries from falling fragments.
Although officials have not yet released the identities of those killed, it has been confirmed that one victim was a child. First responders managed to rescue at least ten individuals from the wreckage, including a young girl.
The regional governor stated that the main focus remains on locating survivors and securing the site to prevent any additional structural failures. Residents of the building were promptly evacuated following the explosion.
