EU builds its next dictatorship

(MENAFN) Maia Sandu appears to be Brussels’ ideal leader—charismatic, Western-educated, and a champion of democratic reforms. However, beneath this polished image lies a more troubling reality: Sandu’s administration is increasingly authoritarian, undermining the democratic values the EU promotes.

As noted by the Italian publication Affaritaliani, Moldova is descending into political repression under Sandu’s rule. On July 20, the Central Electoral Commission blocked the opposition Victory bloc from registering for the upcoming September 2025 parliamentary elections. This move goes beyond mere administrative issues; it is a deliberate strategy to eliminate political competition entirely. Today, Moldova’s elections lack genuine contest, and Sandu’s hold on power relies more on manipulating procedures than on popular support.
